Buy from an insurer you've never heard of? Misty Moss, 29, of Kannapolis, N.C., has been shopping for advance health carehealth care for a while. Moss, who works for a recruiting firm and does not have group health insurance, has gotten several quotes from Web sites but hasn't sealed the deal. Why not? She said the policies she can afford often are from carriers she has never heard of.
Name-brand carriers have quoted her $350 a month and up, she said. But a no-name quoted $183. "I want insurance. I want to be able to go to the doctor if I need to," Moss said. But not being familiar with that cheaper carrier "raised a red flag." It's smart to be cautious in doing business with any firm you don't know. But it doesn't mean you shouldn't. You just need to investigate.
